The question that is bound to come up one day.

It came to me today.

Are beans nuts? Not nuts as in insane but nuts as in the peanut, groundnut, walnut, pistachio, hazelnut, almond you eat. Beans being soybean, green bean, red bean, baked bean and those found in the long bean and french bean.

With my rash condition, the doctor told me to avoid chicken, eggs, seafood, nuts and chocolate. I did my very best, really, but accidents happen.

A layman recipe for rash include a raw egg in a mixture of brown sugar and warm water.

The takoyaki, after striking out the octy and prawn, left the ham and cheese, which only after being consumed was realized to have contained chicken. The ham used was chicken ham.

Does fishcake count as seafood?

Peanuts are definitely counted as nuts, even after being boiled.

KoKo Krunch, unfortunately, is probably chocolate favoured.

;_;

I definitely drank quite a bit of soybean milk, not because of my rash condition but out of love for the canned and bottled ones. I ate some tofu too...

So the eternal question. Are beans nuts? I asked wikipedia and instead of an answer, i found more questions.

Wikipedia says

"Bean is a common name for large plant seeds of several genera of Fabaceae (formerly Leguminosae) used for food or feed. And is sometimes a last name."

"A nut is a seed of a plant."

"A nut is a seed, but not all seeds are nuts. A seed comes from fruit and can be removed from the fruit. A nut is a compound ovary that is both the seed and the fruit, which cannot be separated."

They did not teach us classification when i took up biology in seconday school. I am thankful because it means i did not need to remember those complex latin names. However, it means i have no idea of the difference between the bean and the nut even after reading wikipedia even though i know that they have to be different.

Then, http://www.answerbag.com/q_view/91365 gave me the answer.

Beans and nuts are different due to their DNA. They are fundamentally two different things. Let us ignore the reliability of the answer (from the internet, no references, no evidences given...) for i am too tired to continue the investigation. Maybe another day.
